Photo Set: PKEW PKEW PKEW in Chicago! (the time before last)

Well, here we are a million years later. I think this show was in like February but what the fuck do I know? Anyway, the red tape is lifted and here’s some god damn photos of one of the most aggressively simplistic bands in music today, PKEW PKEW PKEW, shredding my least favorite venue in Chicago, SubT DOWNSTAIRS.

They were supported by an oddball crew of Chicago locals in Otto MannCostanza, and Horrible Things and none of them disappointed, given what my expectations were. Fucking christ, there was a lot of Kyle Manning on this bill and so a lot of shit was talked and a lot of pop-punk happened. I don’t remember anything else. This was like 3 months ago and if I was a betting man, I’d assume I was drunk, so get off my fucking back, ok?

THE BOYS, as PkewX3 loves being called,  played their whole album because how else would they fill a half hour set? They’re certainly not shy in their belief that music doesn’t have to be complex, unique or even that clever to be fun and engaging to a bunch of drunk punk kids. I don’t even know if these guys skateboard, but they fucking love singing about skateboarding. And drinking. And pizza. And being in a band. They’re a group that is like a market researchers wet dream as to what a mid-20’s white dude loves. I see their vision, and their vision is to party. Andrew WK for the kids who grew up on Fat Wreck and Hopelessly Devoted to You compilations. Hey, it’s pretty cool and they’re a good time to see play live. (I hear your cries of poserdom, Donkey Boy. It’s ok.)

Anyway, here’s some photos I took.
